Quarries Modo is a tiny bulldog puppy surrendered by his owners at Road Days and Rescue, a Mexico-based rescue center. The reason: he couldn’t walk properly.
By looking at him, you would know something is wrong with Quarries. He is 1/4 the size of a typical bulldog puppy. He may be suffering from severe dwarfism and hydrocephalus, his legs were severely deformed, and he could barely walk properly.
Even though volunteers will never know what kind of history the tiny bulldog had, his condition manifested many of the definitive signs of dangerous inbreeding during his examination.
Inbreeding is the practice of mating two runts of a litter to produce the in-demand toy breeds. Few people know the implications of normalizing such a practice. It has offspring that may be aesthetically pleasing for humans but dangerous for the animal because of the possible diseases and genetic disorders it may acquire.
Quarries were a result of an inbreeding that had gone wrong. It was unfair that this puppy’s family disposed of him because he resulted from a ‘failed experiment.’
However, Quarries’s will to live was apparent. Despite the challenges he’s going through, no one could break his spirit. He enjoyed playing with his canine friends, who were twice his size. His unwavering determination enabled him to grow to a healthy weight, and he even rediscovered his ability to walk.
Quarries’ cheerful disposition shone through, and despite his small stature, he never failed to let you know when he had something to say – and he did so with a resounding bark!
A video uploaded on YouTube showed Quarries’ incredible development. The 12-minute video received more than 6 million times and earned thousands of likes.
