This happened in Germany. A baby fox was left on his own after his mother was killed when she tried to get across a highway and got trapped in the middle of a car collision. His chances of survival were drastically reduced, but that day he got lucky.
People around the accident took notice of the three-week-old pup and took him to a local vet to see if he could survive despite the injuries he suffered during the car accident. Then, Werner and Angelika Schmaing from Oberscheld, Germany, decided to take care of the baby fox and brought him home.
Their newly adopted fox joined a Bengal cat, two piglets, and Ziva, a Collie dog. He couldn’t have joined a more diverse bunch! The new tenant at Schmaing’s house was named Dinozzo, and fortunately, he got along well with all of his new animal friends.
However, Ziva felt like something was missing. She quickly decided to take responsibility for the baby fox and become his mother right on the spot. She felt it was her duty to look after him. Talk about animal instinct at its finest.
According to the Schmaings, DiNozzo feels he belongs in the family and behaves as expected from a pup raised by a Collier Dog. Ziva loves him dearly and follows him everywhere, just like he was one of her species.
Even though he is free to roam around his new house, Dinozzo has never felt the need to get away and respond to his animal instincts due to his love for his family and his surrogate mom. He also gets along great with Leopold, the Bengal Cat, which only happens sometimes if those animal species are found in the wild.
