It’s awful that so many dog owners surrender their pets to shelters all across the world. They have a variety of reasons for doing so – ranging from being allergic to financial restraints to everything in between.
Despite this, a Dallas rescue shelter was taken aback three years ago when a dog called Hattie was surrendered to them. The dog had a big tumor on her left side at that time and this tumor has been affecting its life.
For two long years, the tumor had been expanding and growing. Regrettably, Hattie’s former owners had done nothing to address the situation. It was a good thing that she was taken in by a local rescue center, which provided her with a much better life.
The dog was sent to Vet Ranch, a rescue group that helps homeless animals like Hattie. The growth on the dog’s body was interfering with its ability to walk, and the veterinarian was concerned that the muscles and blood arteries on that side had been harmed. Through surgery, the 15-pound tumor was successfully removed by the Vet Ranch specialists.
Hattie can now run much more easily without the extra 15 pounds of weight. She still has further medical treatments to go through, but the enormous tumor is no longer a concern. In addition, the dog has been adopted by a wonderful family who ensures that she is loved and cared for.
Hattie now has a new fur sibling and lives in a house with a yard, according to her adopter. She is allowed to walk and run around the house and in the yard. The dog still has some medical issues, so her family visits the Vet Ranch once a month to make sure that she’s in good health.
This dog may have been homeless and in despair at one point in her life, but her past does not dictate her future, as this story demonstrates. She now has a lot of love to give because of the people who believed in her and gave her a chance.
