Dogs are known for being friendly and affectionate. However, this is definitely not always the case for dogs who have endured difficult circumstances. A good example is Mica, a 10-year-old dog that took a long time to trust humans.
Mica, a labrador mix, has lived in an Ohio shelter. The dog has spent 2,300 days in the shelter, during which he has witnessed many other dogs being adopted while he remained in his kennel. The employees at the animal shelter did everything possible to find the older dog a loving home.
Mica has developed trust issues while in the shelter and he has become apprehensive of people he meets for the first time as a result of his difficult past.
Hundreds of prospective adopters from across the United States have expressed interest in adopting the dog. However, the shelter staff is extremely cautious while reviewing adoption applications for the older dog.
On the shelter’s Facebook page, a post about Mica informed anyone interested in adopting him that he required not only a dog-loving human, but also one who was patient and attentive to the dog’s needs.
Mica’s search for a forever home was surely long but the shelter’s employees made sure that they lavished him with affection and attention. The staff has been able to earn the dog’s confidence and built a loving bond with him over the course of many years.
The dog was allowed to go on frequent chicken nugget runs with some of the shelter’s employees when the shelter is closed.
Although he can be selective when it comes to opening himself to others, the team is certain that Mica will soon find the ideal family. Mica is looking for an adult-only family that is willing to adore him unconditionally.
We are positive you’ll find your family soon, Mica!
