Eleanor was a Golden Retriever that was rescued from a puppy mill. The breeder had done artificial insemination on the poor pooch which made her terrified of humans and her surroundings. Fortunately, Eleanor gets a second chance at puppyhood.
Meeting Eleanor
Jill was well known in her town for fostering rescued dogs. When she heard about Eleanor and her situation, Jill did not hesitate to offer foster care.
When they arrived at Eleanor’s foster home, Eleanor immediately hid inside the bathroom. Jill felt that Eleanor was overwhelmed being in an open space since she was used to being trapped. Jill knew that Eleanor’s recovery wouldn’t be easy, but she was determined to show Eleanor that life can be worth living.
Jill stayed up all night and sat beside Eleanor trying to earn her trust. Thanks to a bunch of treats and snacks, the two began to form a bond.
Journey to recovery
Because Eleanor was afraid to venture on her own, Jill had to carry the heavy pooch whenever they went to the vet. Eleanor wasn’t in prime condition because of the breeding, but fortunately, she wasn’t in a lot of pain either.
After a few days of actually spending time together, Jill had the bright idea to show Eleanor what being a puppy was like. Jill bought dozens of new toys for Eleanor and even set up the yard for her to run around in.
Eleanor was immediately interested in a certain stuffed toy. She guarded the toy with her life as if it were one of the puppies that had been taken away from her.
As the months passed, Jill saw Eleanor transition from terrified to a more playful pooch. She was glad to have been the person that helped Eleanor see that life can be happy.
