Toast is but one of many dogs produced from a puppy mill. We say “produced,” because that’s what the whole process feels like. Female dogs are forced to engage in intercourse, get pregnant, and give birth even if they don’t want to. To be more specific about it, even if their bodies no longer have the ability to.
To say that the situation of dogs in puppy mills is devastating is an understatement. This why animal rights advocates constantly urge people to adopt from shelters instead of buying from pet shops.
The goal behind this call is to chase those running puppy mills out of house and home. Hopefully, that knocks some sense into them and makes them realize how heartless and cruel they’ve been towards these innocent animals.
The lucky King Charles Cavalier
Toast is a King Charles Cavalier who was fortunately rescued from a puppy mill. She became an instant celebrity because of her adorable features, especially her floppy tongue. She was only age six at the time of her rescue, and lived the remaining years of her life as a supermodel.
When she turned a decade old, she was given an opportunity to pose for a photo book. It was entitled “Toast Hampton: How to Summer in Style,” and it was released on the 24th of May, 2016. A significant amount from the proceeds was donated to Friends of Finn, an organization that aims to spread awareness and end operations of puppy mills all over the United States.
Heaven’s new star
Unfortunately, Toast crossed the rainbow bridge in 2017. To honor her memory, her owner, Katie Sturino, organized a fundraising event to help three more organizations fight puppy mills. She also encouraged everyone to adopt rescues and give them another chance in life, the way she opened her home to Toast.
