Dogs are our guardian angels.
Pam Sica’s Golden Retriever named Bullet was her constant companion when her first marriage fell through. When she started dating again, she looked to Bullet for approval. He would give signals to tell Pam whether he liked the guy or not.
When Pam met Troy, Bullet gave his approval. They eventually got married and wanted to start a family. However, Pam suffered miscarriages.
They consoled each other and focused their attention on Bullet instead. They treated him like their own child. They would take him on fun trips to the park and the beach. Bullet got presents for Christmas and his birthdays.
When Bullet was 13 years old, Pam brought Bullet to the vet. He found a growth on his liver and he would die if he did not get the operation. It would be costly, so the vet suggested letting him go. A neighbor suggested the same thing to Pam when she told her about what happened to Bullet.
They had been through together so much that Pam did not want to give up on him. He was not just a companion, he was a part of the family. Pam and Troy prayed for his recovery. Fortunately, the surgery was a success and within a few weeks, he was up and about.
Several weeks later, Pam started to feel the signs of pregnancy. A home pregnancy test kit confirmed that Pam, at 40 years of age, was pregnant again. This time, it was a success and Troy Joseph was born.
They prepared Bullet for the coming of the baby by letting him get used to the baby’s smell. When the baby arrived from the hospital, he was instantly protective of him and wanted to be constantly near him.
Early one morning, while Troy was getting ready for work, Bullet rushed to the room barking frantically. Pam followed him back to the bedroom and, to her horror, found that the baby was not breathing. Troy tried to perform CPR while waiting for the EMTs to arrive.
The EMTs resuscitated the baby before rushing him off to the hospital. He had to stay in the intensive care unit for almost three weeks. The doctors discovered that Troy Joseph had double pneumonia that caused his breathing difficulty. In addition to that, he also had undiagnosed heart irregularities.
One doctor told Pam and Troy that it was a good thing they saw what was happening in time. The baby would not have made it if they’d found him sooner.
Pam was very grateful that Bullet was there. He was her hero.
