When a couple named Caitlin and Grant began digging a drainage ditch at the back of their home in the spring of last year, they knew the hole would be the ideal size for water runoff.
They never realized that the drainage hole was also the perfect size for their bulldog named Franklin.
According to Caitlin, while Grant was burrowing the 20-foot-long hole, Franklin just jumped down into it and immediately laid down. The dog just kept digging down. And if somebody picked him up, he would quickly jump back in.
The Alabama-based bulldog, adopted in 2020, has always been Caitlin’s companion in a work-from-home setting. The spirited pup loves his family and always wants to get involved in any activities – especially if the activities happen to be digging holes.
Franklin loves to swing on their porch swing. He even joins his mom in a pottery class, where he quickly makes friends. That is when he isn’t busy digging to far-off lands through his body-sized tunnel system.
Caitlin said that Franklin is the funniest and cutest little ball of fur. His personality is so huge.
Since digging the original hole, Caitlin and her partner have dug many new holes for plants and gardens, primarily for their beloved bulldog.
Franklin likes the comfy feeling of being nestled in a fabulous trench. Perhaps he loves the secret vantage point that he gets, almost mixing in with the ground. Or maybe he pretends to be a lovely, freshly planted gardenia. Caitlin believes that Franklin’s primary goal is to get involved – to have a special place to call his own.
For Franklin, anywhere he can be with his loving family is significantly his favorite place. Does that place involve a trench? Then it would be even better.
