A dog named Mellow has shown us that dogs play important roles in the lives of humans. One of these roles is being a friend and family member. He has proven this is true by being the sweetest friend of the Downs family.
Mellow has been a member of the family for thirteen years. Missouri residents Chris and Katie Downs adopted him when he was a puppy. He was present when there were only three of them, until Katie became pregnant and the family grew to four members.
They named him Leo, and he immediately became Mellow’s playmate. They were close companions. They would share a bunk bed, with Leo occupying the higher bunk and Mellow the lower.
Chris also had the finest bond with the mellow individual. He introduced him to so many places that it would surprise Katie if someone knew Chris but not Mellow.
Early in 2019, they unexpectedly lost Mellow due to natural causes. Leo’s best friend, Leo, was the one who was affected the most by his family’s loss. Who would now accompany him during his games and sleep?
Leo felt abandoned till the boy decided to acquire another dog. Even though his family believed they needed more time to grieve Mellow’s death, the child insisted on adopting a new puppy so he could move on.
He regularly pleaded with his father for one. Katie then visited the Facebook page of Stray Rescue of St. Louis in the hopes of finding a suitable dog to help their child mend his broken heart. Astounded, she discovers a canine that resembles Mellow when he was a puppy, and whose name is just as endearing: Nutty Buddy.
Chris and Katie acted as if they were going to donate to the shelter on the day that their son was expecting Nutty Buddy to be presented to him. Leo was made to wait, and when they returned, he burst into tears upon seeing the dog in the technician’s hands.
When his parents told him it was his, he could not contain his excitement! He was overjoyed!
While no one could replace Mellow in their hearts, Nutty Buddy would perform admirably as himself, not as Mellow’s replacement.
