Most dogs that are rescued have experienced some form of abuse. This is why many rescue dogs have anxiety issues that can be triggered when they experience a specific situation. Sadly, these dogs are continuing to live in fear even when they get adopted by loving families.
A woman named Terri founded an animal rescue organization called Foxy And The Hounds. Ever since she started the animal rescue, she had countless experienced fostering abused dogs. Terri understood that these dogs need time to decompress and adjust to their new environment.
She also knows that these dogs don’t trust humans at all and they need to be shown love for her to gain their trust and also for them to realize that not all humans are going to hurt them. Usually, it takes a few days for Terri to win over a dog’s trust. However, a rescue dog named Arnold broke her heart.
Arnold was rescued from an abusive situation. He was terrified of people and would always shake in fear whenever someone comes near him. When Terri started fostering Arnold, she couldn’t believe how terrified he was. Even when Terri tried to pet him, Arnold would yelp and try biting her hand.
However, Terri refused to give up. After a few days, she decided that it was time for her to win Arnold’s trust. When Terri started to approach Arnold, he was visibly shaking and would yelp when she touched him. Arnold associated the human hand with violence and pain.
When Terri realized that Arnold wasn’t trying to bite her, she started to let her fingers stroke his fur. That was when Arnold stopped yelping. Although Arnold was still shaking, he began to realize that getting touched by a human isn’t as bad as it seems.
Terri continued this every day until Arnold wasn’t scared anymore. Eventually, the time came when Arnold even craved Terri’s affection. When Arnold rolled over begging for belly rubs from Terri, it was one of the happiest moments for Terri. Arnold eventually became a social and happy dog who loves getting attention and love from people.
Terri showed Arnold that he’s worthy and deserved love. Thanks to her work, Arnold no longer fears humans but wants their attention and love instead. Here’s a truly heartwarming video of how Terri helped Arnold and transform him into a happy dog.
