A young man named Matt Bentley was shocked to discover an animal lying down on the trail ahead of him while he crossing the Great Salt Lake Desert in his four-wheeler. To avoid colliding with it, the eager explorer slowed down and came to a complete halt. And it was only when he got close enough that he realized it was a dog.
He could tell the dog was in desperate need of assistance right away. The dog was not only cold and hungry, but it was also completely hairless. Its medical condition caused a thick crust of scab on her head and face, and she had a severe case of mange.
Matt became concerned that the dog might not make it out there on her own, so he carried her into his vehicle. He also canceled his trip and went straight to the Utah Animal Adoption Center with the dog. The dog was shivering wildly the entire time.
The dog was cared for by the shelter staff, who were able to stabilize her health. They fed her and gave her medication. She became stronger and more energetic with each passing day.
Volunteers Jamie Jacques and Whitney, her daughter, were among those who looked after the stray dog. They went to the shelter on a daily basis to make sure the dog had all she needed. They fell in love with it and named her Kelly.
Kelly appeared to be a completely different dog three months after she was discovered in the desert. Jamie and her family adopted her because she was healthy enough to be adopted.
Kelly thrived even more in her new environment. With her new thick coat of fur, she not only became incredibly attractive, but she also became quite cheerful and playful. She has really come a very long way from being a lonely and ailing stray dog.
They made plans for Kelly to meet up with the man who rescued her 15 months after Matt discovered her.
When they met up again, Matt was taken aback by what he saw. He couldn’t believe that what he was seeing in front of him used to be the defenseless, hairless dog he found. And when he held Kelly, the nice man couldn’t help but cry.
Matt was ecstatic to learn that the dog is doing well and has found the ideal home to look after her.
