Birks was a stray dog from Busan, Korea. Every day, his life was in danger. But thanks to a kind woman who spotted him on the streets, his life completely changed.
The dog’s rescuer picked him up, fed him, and fixed him. She gave him everything he needed and prepped him for a new life. Eventually, she sent her off to NYC and Korean K9 Rescue quickly placed him in foster care.
One day, when his foster mom was playing the clarinet, he decided to join her. He sat on the couch, watched her, and then, started singing with her. It was an incredible moment so his mom shared the footage on social media, and that’s how his new mom Mikaela Bennett saw him.
Mikaela was dazzled when she saw how acquainted Birks was with music. She thought it was the best opportunity for her to adopt him. She spoke with her life partner David Polston and they both agreed to bring him home.
Birks didn’t need to adjust to his new life. Like him, his new parents appreciated music. It’s the one definite thing they had in common, and it’s what brought them together.
On the day he arrived in his new home, his mom and dad played an album, and he just instantly took to it and sang to it. He nodded his back and forth as if he was in a concert. He was so responsive to music, according to his mom.
Whenever there’s music playing, Birks listens with both ears and even tilts his head. And when he really, really likes it, he will start singing along.
Mikaela and David admit practicing at home is a bit of a challenge now because Birks is always in competition. He always tries to sing at a higher note and has to have a louder voice. But no matter what, they will never exchange him for anything. He’s a perfect fit for them.
