The time dogs spend in shelters is just one of the many chapters in their life story. Most of these chapters contain stories about how dogs endured starvation, abuse, neglect, and abandonment from humans they were supposed to receive love from. The only time the narrative changes is when rescue groups find them and turn them over to shelters.
Volunteers are aware of how crucial their roles in these dogs’ lives are. They are trained to give these poor creatures the best care possible. While the task includes helping them find forever homes, they know it isn’t something they can guarantee.
Among the dogs who received utmost care after being rescued is Lola, a beautiful brown pooch. She and her six babies used to live in the busy streets of Arizona. They would risk their lives every waking day, desperate to find something that would somehow satisfy their hunger.
A long wait for Lola
The family of seven’s suffering ended when a rescue group found them and turned them over to the Humane Society of Wickenburg, Arizona. Lola continued to raise her babies while sharing space with other dogs in the shelter. She also watched as guests gushed over every single one of her babies and adopted them.
According to the shelter volunteers, it’s easier to find forever homes for puppies than it is for adult dogs. This is why Lola continued living at the shelter after all her babies got adopted. She ended up waiting for more than 400 days.
Home at last
Lola’s wait finally ceased when the volunteers transferred her to another shelter in Phoenix. They knew they made the right decision to transfer her after hearing from a family who expressed interest in adopting the brown pooch. After processing her papers, the family officially welcomed Lola into her forever home.
