Whoever said that the most extraordinary things are stored in tiny packages sure wasn’t kidding. Pockets the Chihuahua showed everyone that there’s some truth to that statement when he saved her humans. The small pooch sacrificed his life so they could live, and that’s something they’ll eternally be grateful for.
Saving Martina
Pockets lived in Phoenix, Arizona, with his fur mom, Martina Ochoa. They were both sleeping soundly when the Chihuahua noticed something wrong with his human. He instantly licked Martina’s face to wake her up.
Roberto, Martina’s husband, watched as she opened her eyes and tried to wiggle her way out of bed. When she fainted, Roberto rushed to her side to see what was wrong. That was when he realized that Martina was having a stroke. Thanks to Pockets, Roberto had enough time to rush his wife to the hospital to receive immediate treatment.
Crossing the rainbow bridge
Pockets once again came to Martina’s rescue three years after the incident. Martina and Roberto were hanging out with her family when a rattlesnake showed up. It slithered towards her granddaughter, who, at that time, was on the ground playing.
Pockets knew what was about to happen, so he positioned himself between the snake and the baby. The reptile’s fangs landed on his head, and since the venom was too much for his tiny body, he died immediately.
Martina froze when she saw what happened to Pockets. She was grateful that her granddaughter got to live another day, but her heart was broken into pieces. She hugged the Chihuahua’s lifeless body while thanking him for saving her and her granddaughter’s lives.
Small frame, big heart
Pockets showed everyone that he might be small, but the love he has for his humans is immeasurable. His family may have lost him, but they gained a guardian angel— a four-legged one at that.
