Dogs are truly amazing creatures. Most of us would want our homes filled with these animals. Unfortunately, having a house filled with a lot of dogs is a ton of work and responsibility that most of us simply can’t have. Many dog owners are happy to have one or two dogs in their families. But some people have no control and end up hoarding these animals.
Two Labradors named Buddy and Hobbs were rescued from a hoarding situation. They were rescued from a house that was filthy and filled with so many dogs that the owner couldn’t manage them anymore. Buddy and Hobbs also weren’t used to humans touching them or showing them any affection, which was why they were terrified and froze when people approached them. After they were rescued, the rescuers determined that they were bonded pairs, which was why separating them wasn’t an option.
When Buddy and Hobbs first came into the animal shelter, they were so terrified of people that they would freeze whenever someone came close to them. It took a lot of time and even more patience to get them to come out of their shell. Eventually, they were fostered by a woman named Camille who gave them a loving home where they can decompress and learn to trust humans again.
Camille’s strategy to help Buddy and Hobbs was to spend with them by being in their space and reading to them. It helped the two dogs get used to having a human around and taught them that not all humans are bad. Eventually, the two dogs became more confident and trusting that they started approaching Camille whenever they saw her holding a book. After a few weeks, Buddy and Hobbs became excited whenever they see Camille.
After a couple of more weeks, Buddy and Hobbs gained enough confidence that they started walking out of their room on their own to explore. Eventually, Buddy and Hobbs were let out in the yard and started leash training, which they didn’t like at first. However, Camille was persistent and showed them that the leash isn’t something that they should be afraid of. After they associated the leash as a way for them to go on walks, they started liking it.
Buddy and Hobbs are gaining more confidence as each day passes. They don’t rely on each other as much for comfort and companionship but Camille is still hoping that they would get adopted together since they are bonded pairs. Camille did a fantastic job at helping Buddy and Hobbs learn to trust humans again and she’s also looking forward to the day when they finally find their forever family. Here’s a video featuring Buddy and Hobb’s heartwarming story.
