Nala is a cute teacup poodle who rides the elevator at a senior care facility, then sprints from room to room to greet her old friends. Nala is not a therapy dog, but the nursing home residents love to call her an “angel.”
Nala, the elevator-riding pup
Doug Dawson decided to bring Nala to work one day at Lyngblomsten Care Center. But Doug never expected that Nala coming along with him to work would become a daily occurrence. It’s because the senior residents have fallen in love with the adorable pooch, and Nala loves hanging out with her elderly friends, too.
As soon as they reach the center, Doug places Nala before an empty elevator and pushes a button for her. Nala enters the elevator, then Doug goes on her way. Meanwhile, when the elevator dings open, Nala dashes to each room then greets the seniors. She would linger for a while to sit on their laps and give them cuddles.
The seniors are happy to see their furry friend each day. But what makes Nala’s visits more fascinating is how she chooses each person to visit that day. Often, she’d pick one who has Alzheimer’s disease. There were also times when she’d lie on the bed of someone who’s about to pass away as if giving them comfort during their last moments. It’s true when people say Nala is an angel.
Tiny angel
Nala seems very connected with the nursing home residents, but the truth is, she’s never been trained as a therapy dog. That doesn’t bother anybody at all. Nala, just being herself, already brings them a lot of joy and comfort.
Nala has been riding elevators at the senior facility for the past five years. Nala even went viral when her story was featured in the “Land of 10,000 Stories.” Nala had to lie low with her rounds when the Coronavirus hit, but Nala seems to always think of her senior friends back there.
Unfortunately, Doug passed away in July this year. Doug’s wife, Javon Allen, says that having Nala had brought her great comfort during this time. Well, that’s what Nala always does! Nala’s heart is so huge for her tiny size, and she’s oozing with love wherever she goes.
