It’s easy to think that cats and dogs couldn’t get along. They have been branded as mortal enemies throughout history. And although we have gotten used to this notion, it’s not impossible for them to become friends.
They could even be family. This is proven by a rescue dog named Raylan.
He simply adores kittens. Together with his mom, a kind woman named Laura Tindal, they have fostered 60 kittens, and Raylan has fallen in love with each and every one of them.
Love and patience
Raylan was just a young pup when he was brought in as a stray in a high-kill shelter. Because he was hyperactive and lacked training, many potential adopters tended to overlook him. As the weeks passed, he was placed on the shelter’s kill list.
But just before he was set to be euthanized, Laura met him at the shelter, and she decided to give the troubled pooch another chance in life. She couldn’t bear to see him killed, so she adopted the dog herself.
With a little love and patience, Laura trained the dog, and he quickly became a perfect companion in her apartment in Toronto, Canada. Raylan became well-behaved and was known for being a smart pooch. He learned a lot of tricks like fetching a beer for his mom or turning the lights off.
A nurturing dog
Seeing the success she made with Raylan, Laura wanted to continue making a difference in the lives of animals in need. She decided to foster kittens that were abandoned or surrendered to the shelter.
Laura was a tad reluctant at first because she didn’t know how her dog would react. As it turned out, she had nothing to worry about. Raylan fell in love with every kitten she took in.
He is very nurturing and protective, and he would act as a surrogate parent to these young cats. The caring dog would be very gentle and careful around these tiny felines.
After six years, Laura took care of more than 60 kittens, and Raylan loved all of them. And it seems that they would continue to help find these helpless animals a better life.
