When they learned that a puppy had been discovered at the bottom of a ravine, the charity The Dogs of Bali dispatched rescue workers immediately. They did not yet know the puppy’s condition, but they were aware that if they did not act immediately, it would be too late to save it.
The puppy sat motionless in ice-cold water. Observers believed it was absolutely immobile because it was too terrified to move, but they were mistaken. The poor puppy had two shattered legs and was undoubtedly in excruciating pain, so it remained still.
The rescuers quickly descended the ditch to bring the puppy to safety. After capturing it, they rushed it to their facility for treatment. Everyone felt relieved when the vet said that the puppy’s injuries weren’t so bad and that they would recover in no time.
The dog needed somewhere to stay in after leaving the clinic, so Elise, one of the chief rescuers, decided to take it home. She offered to foster the puppy for a bit but she ended up falling in love with it. She gave it the name Saga and made it an official family member.
Saga received all the attention and care necessary for his recovery. But the occurrences caused him more than physical discomfort. He also suffered emotionally. Being abandoned in the ravine rendered him terrified, particularly of water.
Regardless of the size of the puddle, Saga froze in dread. Because he was afraid to put his paws in the water, he was unable to enjoy their outings to the beach or river. While the other dogs enjoyed the beach, he simply sat on the sand and observed.
Elise gradually reintroduced Saga to the water. She carried him in the pool at first, then when she determined he was ready for a larger body of water, she returned him to the neighboring river. Surprisingly, he dove straight in, and the following time they visited, he traversed the river on his own.
Saga spends the majority of his time today swimming, playing, and jumping in any body of water. When he is not out, he does yoga with Elise. Because he believes his mother will never let anything awful happen to him again, he is unafraid to do whatever he pleases.
