A man’s best canine companion is what they are, but beyond that, there is more special—a bond that lasts through time between a dog and a man. The love, care, and loyalty these dogs provide are worth more than any treasures you can find. They are our family.
A boy from Utah has severe epilepsy, and Dopey, his service dog, touches the hearts of people across the nation. Their bond is unique. Something that keeps the boy safe.
The duo has been very close since 2013. It was when Dopey, a 4-year-old golden retriever, joined their family. Dopey then began aiding the 12-year-old boy, Britton Vos, a boy facing a developmental delay. Since then, they have been inseparable and have always stayed together.
Dopey always accompanies and lies beside Britton. The golden retriever can alert his teacher or parents when a seizure comes. He can fetch his medicine or call 911 when nobody is around. He is Britton’s guardian angel.
Dopey has caught the eyes of scientists, and learning about his talent is a surprise for them. The dog can detect the seizures hours before they happen. It’s like he can see the future.
About several months ago, Dopey began panting, nudging, and licking Britton’s teacher Melissa Lovell’s belly. It alerted the teacher that something was not right. An hour later, Britton had a seizure attack.
During Melissa’s functional skills class, Dopey is an alert dog for Britton’s friends and classmates. Melissa claimed that Dopey was a part of their class. Just a simple glance by any of her students to Dopey helps them calm down.
She even shared that one of her students loved to talk about Dopey’s eyes and that they’re like a chocolate chip. Other students treated Dopey as a student as well. Dopey is not just a dog but an angel.
