A canine who recently found himself in a rather icy ordeal ended up with a touching epilogue to his tale.
Based on reports released by KVRR, a woman was enjoying a walk by the bank of the Sheyenne River in Horace, North Dakota, when she discovered a stranded chocolate brown Labrador Retriever in the middle of the water, stranded on a block of ice. She was not sure how she could help the poor canine since the river was icy and frigid. Instead, she did the next right thing: she dialed 911 and called for help.
Upon arriving, the first responders from Cass County Sheriff’s Office and West Fargo Fire Department immediately assessed the situation. According to Deputy Craig Keller of Cass County Sheriff’s Office, the stranded canine was pretty much in the middle of the river, around 20 to 30 feet away from the shoreline. So, to bring the dog safely back to land, two of the firefighters donned water suits and braved the freezing waters to save the beautiful chocolate Labrador, whose name was Lola.
One of the firefighters had to climb the ice where she got stranded. He proceeded to grab her carefully–and as soon as she was within arms’ reach, both of them were safely pulled back to shore.
The daring rescue was caught on video and uploaded through the official Facebook account of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office – North Dakota. The post was able to receive a lot of likes and shares from adoring netizens. The organization also explained through a caption that the little wanderer escaped her home and ended up in the middle of the ice for some reason.
In a statement for KVRR, Deputy Keller said that Lola is just ecstatic to be back with her family. And after the little misadventure that had her floating down the Sheyenne, her family is just grateful that she is safe.
