All dog owners have the responsibility to care for their pets. We have to make sure that we give them nutritious food, they get exercise, and they are happy. As dogs, they are helpless in caring for themselves properly. They are dependent on us and trust us fully to care for them.
This is the reason why some abused dogs stay loyal to their owners despite what they do to them. They don’t know any better. And in one particular case, a puppy owned by a drug trafficker was being given drugs. It took the might of the police force to finally get him out of that abusive environment.
A new life for Bubba
Officer Jeremy Laurich, along with several other officers from the Tustin Police Department in Orange County California, launched a drug-bust operation to apprehend suspected drug traffickers in the area. During their operation in a rundown motel, they found a small puppy with the suspects. Looking at the dog, they sensed that there was something wrong with him. They figured that there were drugs in his system.
Fearing that it may have a fatal effect on the dog, Officer Laurich rushed the tiny pooch to the Orange County Animal Care to get a vet to see him. After a series of tests, their suspicion was confirmed. The eight-week-old pooch had both meth and heroin in his system. The doctors flushed the drugs out of the pup’s body and drew up a treatment for the dog.
Bubba, the name they gave the pooch, stayed at the shelter for his treatments. And when he got better, the staff decided that it would be a good time for Bubba to meet the officer who saved him.
In a heartwarming reunion video, Bubba was thrilled and excited to see officer Laurich again. The dog immediately recognized his hero and quickly ran up to him. Bubba was jumping up and down and wagging his tail furiously. He couldn’t thank his hero enough for saving him. And Officer Laurich had the biggest smile in his face. Check out their happy reunion in the video below.
We have received many requests asking about Bubba who was taken into custody in March due to drugs in his system. Today we visited Orange County Animal Care and reunited Bubba with Officer Laurich. Officer Laurich is the original officer who took Bubba into custody. Bubba looked very healthy and happy and both he and Officer Laurich seemed to thoroughly enjoy their time together. Per Assistant Director Katie Ingram, Bubba has adjusted very well and is one of the staff favorites. She also said Bubba is very social, and has multiple rescue groups waiting to take him when he is released. Bubba is estimated to be 5-6 months old. We loved seeing Bubba today and hope you enjoy our Bubba update.
