Male dogs are not known to be hands-on parents, unlike females. Generally, it is the female dog that is more protective and attentive to her puppies. On the other hand, male dogs are more likely to spend their time exploring and playing rather than caring for young pups.
However, the family of rescue dogs that the Hope For Paws non-profit organization in Compton helped out tell a different tale.
The rescue crew received a phone call about a family of homeless dogs living in a Compton, California steelyard. The family comprised of the mother and three young puppies.
When the puppies spotted their rescuers, they were terrified. But when Lisa Arturo, one of the rescuers, approached, they started to wag their tails.
The rescuers saw that the dogs were hungry but were curious about them. They soon decided to start moving.
They attempted to capture the mother first since she was expected to be the most difficult, then work on the puppies next. However, when the team attempted to trap the puppies, they escaped. They were in a state of fear and fled in all directions. One of them even hid in a narrow space beneath the pipes.
Clearly, none of the puppies had any contact with humans. A second puppy started to race towards the road.
However, the patient rescue team was extremely relentless in its goal.
After their capture, the dogs were taken to the veterinarian. It was discovered there that the ‘mom’ was actually the ‘dad.’ And he was the one who was taking care of the puppies.
Hope for Paws quickly contacted the steelyard, which informed them that they would inform the rescue team as soon as they saw the mother.
All the dogs were given baths and will remain in foster care until they find permanent homes. Thank you, Hope for Paws, for providing these creatures with a second chance at life.
