According to studies, dogs, like humans, have distinct personalities. There may be a few shared characteristics among our furry companions, but ultimately, each dog is unique. Dogs are also known to have weird habits and traits that make them amusing and endearing, and, occasionally, these traits save their lives.
Meet Oliver, a lovable dog who once called the Memphis Animal Services his home.
The shelter once received a call from a woman who stated that the dog was wreaking havoc in her backyard. A team from the shelter went to the woman’s house and brought Oliver to their facility where they planned to put him up for adoption once he was old enough.
During Oliver’s first few days at the shelter, the staff noticed that he was an intelligent and well-trained dog. He enjoys eating so much that, once his bowl was empty, he would carry it in his mouth. One of the employees observed this and handed Oliver extra food, assuming he was still hungry. It turned out that he simply enjoys carrying his food bowl around constantly.
When Memphis Animal Services advertised on Facebook that Oliver was ready for adoption, they described his small quirk. Oliver’s odd behavior caused him to stand out, and people took note. The shelter’s Facebook post announcing Oliver’s availability was shared over 600 times.
Oliver needed as much attention as possible because the deadline for his adoption was rapidly approaching. If he was not adopted by the time the deadline came around, he would be euthanized.
On the day of the adoption deadline, two women visited the shelter and told the staff that they were there to adopt Oliver. They said that the instant they saw the Facebook post, they fell in love with the dog. They have definitely arrived at precisely the right moment!
As a parting gift, the shelter allowed Oliver to take his food bowl to his new home, so he could continue playing with it.
