Water always seeks its level. The same thing happened in this story. Nick Abbott, a 31-year-old deaf man from Maine, finds his best friend in Emerson, a sweet little puppy who is also deaf. Now, they’ve become an unbreakable couple.
Nick was scrolling through his Facebook newsfeed when he came across a post about Emerson, a 12-week-old puppy who had lost his hearing. He decided to check him out, and it caught his interest.
A black Lab, Emerson was rescued by a Florida shelter when he was only six weeks old. Later, he got transferred to Maine’s North Florida Rescue. The puppy had seizures and had to be admitted to the hospital. He got infected while he was there.
Lindsay Powers of NFR Maine declared that after his recovery, he would be up for adoption. They discovered he had hearing difficulties once they got him home from the veterinarian’s office in Florida. The puppy did not seem to mind it. He had such a difficult start in life but ended with a happy fairy tale.
In March, Lindsay Powers wrote on Facebook that Emerson is still looking for his home. I also want to continue sharing the post so the sweet boy can find his own deserving home.
So Nick quickly inquired about the dog, and the two agreed to meet. According to Nick, the dog came straight to him at the door, sat down at his feet, and stayed there. He added that the dog chose him. He knew at that moment that they would get along pretty well.
Nick is now instructing his new best friend on how to respond to visual commands, which are like sign language. He said that the bond they have is excellent. They have a great understanding of one another, and he thought that they were meant to be.
Nick’s mother, Richelle Abbott, said that she finds it cute whenever Nick reaches up and shakes Emerson’s ear lobe; the pup will bark.
