Even the most vicious dogs have what it takes to be “man’s best friend.” A Texas police officer realized this when he answered a dispatch call about a “vicious” dog reported to be on the loose.
Officer Travis Frost spotted the massive muscular dog on the front porch of someone’s home. If the dog attacked him, Frost left the door on his cruiser open so he could jump to safety when needed. He then proceeded to approach the dog cautiously.
According to Frost, it didn’t quite go like he thought it would. Frost whistled at the dog, and as soon as the pup heard him, the massive dog came trotting over with his tail wagging. Frost tried petting the dog and was surprised when the pup jumped in the front seat and made himself home.
By the time animal control arrived, Frost and the dog were already best buddies. They hung out in the cruiser while waiting for animal control, snapping selfies. The dog also got some well-deserved belly rubs before being whisked to the shelter.
As it turns out, the dog was microchipped and was later identified as an American Bully named Gold. Thanks to his microchip, his owners could pick him up at the facility shortly after his rescue.
The police department took the opportunity to inform pet owners how important it is to microchip their pets — and, of course, not to judge a dog by its appearance. They believe the call was placed about a vicious dog because Pit Bulls and similarly muscular breeds of canines are often negatively stereotyped as aggressive.
According to Shawn Vaughn, a police spokesman, you are doing yourself a disservice if you judge a dog based on its breed. He added that the only dog that bit him was a Chihuahua.
The police department hopes that with this story, people will realize that all dogs are loving creatures, regardless of their size or breed.
