Even as a young pup, Beaux Tox’s facial deformity was very evident. Born on a breeding farm, he was labeled as unsellable. Most of the time, dogs with this label are either given away, turned over to a shelter, or in a worst-case scenario, put to sleep.
A neglected dog
Beaux Tox was given away for free but did not find the family that will truly love him. The labrador was passed on from one owner to another until he settled down in a house in Austin, Texas. He was mostly used as a guard dog and regularly kept outside the house. He may have had owners, but it is not one that treated him like family.
Beaux Tox lives commonly alone with little to no human interaction. He was left tied to a tree and would sleep on the ground. He was not welcome in the house because his owner had cats living inside. And when his owners had to move, their plans did not include Beaux Tox.
Finding a forever home
Beaux Tox’s owners decided to give the dog to a shelter. But because the shelter was full, they couldn’t bring him in. What they did was to promise to look for a house for Beaux Tox while he still stayed with his owners.
By that time, Beaux Tox was already five years old. And because he wasn’t given much care, he had several health issues. Aside from being malnourished and having fleas, Beaux Tox also had a severe heartworm problem. Any adopter would have a series of challenges to face.
But that didn’t scare off Jamie Hulit. A dedicated dog lover and rescuer, Jamie has created a network that involves several rescue organizations in the Texas area. When Jamie heard about the poor dog’s plight, she did not hesitate to contact the owners and take Beaux Tox from them.
Jamie immediately put Beaux Tox under medical care. His heartworm was so severe that vets said that he only had a fifty-fifty chance to survive. But with Jamie’s love and full attention, Beaux Tox got well. Now, the neglected dog that nobody wanted lives in a large family with many other dogs. He has learned how it is to be loved and how to be happy.
