Pia was visiting her friends when she first heard about Hercules. The Argentinian woman’s friends told her that a dog was roaming their streets. And despite their combined efforts, they couldn’t catch him. Pia decided to see if she could do it herself. So she went out to look for the dog. She found Hercules lying by the side of the house.
When Pia got near Hercules, she saw that the dog had given up. It was staying motionless, and her eyes looked like it lost its shine. To Pia, it seemed that the dog has simply given up on life. But the kind-hearted woman was not one to give up so easily. She took the dog and brought her to a vet.
The fight for survival begins
The vet told Pia that the first three days would be critical; they should observe the dog and hope that he survives the weekend. Determined to give Hercules all the fighting chance she could give, Pia dropped everything and focused solely on the dog. Weak and starving, the dog can barely stand up and eat. Pia had to give him water by hand every three hours just to keep him hydrated.
Fortunately, Hercules survived. This was when the dog was given his name. Pia said that she could see that the dog wanted to live. He might have been physically weak, but his will was strong, like Hercules.
Pia would try to help the dog stand and walk, but he was still too weak. So she continued to feed him by hand. And after a couple of weeks. Hercules suddenly stood on his own and took his first few steps in her house. He was wobbly at first, but as days passed, Hercules managed to walk further and further. And soon enough, he was running and jumping all over the place.
The dog’s hair was also rapidly growing. And Hercules became a more active dog as he gained more energy. Gone was the hairless and emaciated dog. Hercules is now a beautiful and happy dog full of spirit. And while it made Pia glad to see Hercules become well again, she dreaded losing him to adoption. So she decided to adopt Hercules herself.
