In 2013, Spencer Pickell, living in Bellingham for almost nine years, decided to visit his brother one day. On the way to his destination, he suddenly felt a terrible headache, so awful that he could not explain how he felt then. Feeling uneasy with his terrible headache, he decided to go to the hospital and underwent an MRI and a CT scan.
The doctors revealed shocking news. They found a cavernous malformation on Spencer’s head. He then underwent medical treatment to cure his illness, but a tragic event happened four years later.
Spencer woke up after spending a month and a week in a hospital. He could not recall any memory of the happenings during the days he spent in the hospital bed. He thought that he had fallen off of a mountain bike and crashed his head.
Recovering from the tragedy was way more complex than Spencer could imagine. He would forget the things people told him after five minutes. It was harder to accept that every day felt like a new day for him, forgetting what he did a day ago.
But he was able to get through his harrowing experience. A Mexican breeder dog named Moon helped Spencer cope with the stress. Moon was a friendly dog for Spencer and his emotional support companion.
Spencer lived in San Diego at that time when he saw a dog across the border. He was initially unsure of the dog’s breed, thinking that it was a bulldog, a boxer, or smut, but one thing Spencer was sure of was that the dog was super awesome. Moon’s former owner abandoned her, so Spencer rescued and adopted the dog.
Since then, Moon has become Spencer’s companion. They go biking, walk in the park, and do other things. It was fantastic for Spencer to see his dog wagging its tail, waiting for him.
Spencer recovered from his brain illness thanks to his doctors for giving him medical treatment. The support from his family was of help, too. Lastly, Moon, being Spencer’s emotional companion, was superb.
