Hope for Paws is a well-known animal rescue group that aids animals in need. One day, they received a message about a dog that had been injured from a man named Ernesto, who had observed a dog staggering and bleeding in front of his home.
Ernesto was looking at the animal for a few moments before realizing that he needed to give it comfort and shelter while he waited for help. Thankfully, rescue worker JoAnn Wiltz wasted no time and immediately went to Ernesto’s location to help the dog.
JoAnn was astonished by how calm and kind the injured dog was upon her arrival. She gave the dog the name Hippo and then proceeded to feed it a cheeseburger that she brought with her. Hippo consumed the food and momentarily forgot his injuries.
Hippo approached JoAnn without hesitation and devoured the treats she brought him. He was a well-mannered and nice dog the entire time, indicating that he was already accustomed to being around people.
JoAnn and Ernesto hypothesized that the poor puppy had been struck by a vehicle, but he did not appear to have any broken bones. She needed to get Hippo to the doctor immediately in order for his wounds to be treated.
Ernesto murmured his farewells as he assisted in bringing Hippo into JoAnn’s. They arrived at the clinic, where the nurses were surprised by how sweet and polite Hippo was despite his road burn, which was presumably the result of being struck by a vehicle.
The veterinarians determined that the dog was between five and six years old and obese, which caused him to overheat. He appreciated the compassion of the volunteers and the refreshing bath they provided him. Hippo was happy to be rescued from the wild and placed in a caring environment.
