Ddolsoon, a Korean Nureongi, loves to explore the mountain where she lives. Every day, she goes on a hike to pass time. She even guides hikers who wish to see the beautiful view at the summit.
There’s no clear path on the mountain because not too many people go up there. First-timers can easily get lost trying to figure out their way. Thanks to Ddolsoon, hikers go up and down the alp safely.
As soon as Ddolsoon sees a group of people going for a hike, she rushes to lead the way. She walks a few feet ahead of them but she stops now and then to make sure every hiker is right behind her. Under her watch, no one gets left behind.
Once it’s time to go home, the dog also makes sure to keep her hikers free from all harm. She’s a true leader and everyone is thanking her for being the best guide they could have. Ddolsoon, however, has a deeper reason as to why she trails the mountain each time.
According to the monk who raises the dog, Ddolsoon fell in love with Baekgu, a homeless dog that eventually took refuge at the temple where they live. The dogs became a couple and they soon started doing things together, like hiking. Baekgu taught Ddolsoon the way up to the mountains to ensure she never gets lost.
About six months ago, however, Baekgu fell ill and never recovered. He crossed the rainbow bridge and left his wife devastated. Ddolsoon missed her husband so much that she started visiting the places they frequented to reminisce their sweet and happy memories.
In no time, Ddolsoon memorized the entire trail and began her career as a tourist guide. She never missed stopping by Baekgu’s grave despite her work. She always made sure to spend time with him even if he was no longer around.
Ddolsoon may still be in mourning but she’s clearly happy with what she does. By simply following what her heart wants, she gets to help people and bring joy to them as they all enjoy the magnificent view at the peak of the mountain.
