Pet adoption is on the rise, and this is certainly a good thing. The uptick amid the pandemic is unprecedented. We can only imagine what life is like for dogs who never find homes.
If confined to their shelter home for the duration of their lives, they miss out on the love and comfort their adopted counterparts enjoy. In that regard, becoming part of a good new family after not having a home is a true blessing.
One Canadian couple understands the importance of securing good homes for our furry friends. That’s why they dedicate their lives to rescuing dogs all over North America. Get ready to meet the two and their family of 46. Yes, you read that right.
Mark and Sharon Starmer adopted their first dog in 2004. Generally, people are less likely to adopt aging dogs or dogs with medical issues. Seeing this disparity, they decide to take matters into their own hands.

The Mission
Building a 4-acre enclosure in British Columbia, Canada, provides more than adequate space for this huge family. Among the 46, besides one grey wolf, there are 10 Huskies, a Portuguese Water Dog, Shar-pei, two poodles, and four St. Bernards in the mix. The dogs inhabit both the inside and outside of the home.
Taking care of all these dogs is no easy task. The Starmer’s rely on friends and a food supplier that supports their mission. All the monies they receive go towards the care of the dogs.
Mark has a can-do attitude. When it comes to the dogs, he and his wife will go above and beyond to ensure they are well cared for. It truly is a labor of love.
Today, they have an organization committed to finding and adopting dogs. All of the dogs the Starmer’s rescue reside at the family estate. This distinguishes them somewhat since the dogs are all kept in one place, as opposed to finding the dogs and matching them with a new owner.

However, the Starmer’s also work with individuals who are sincere about wanting to adopt and will assist in locating and then transporting dogs to permanent homes.
As dog lovers, we can’t help but appreciate the extraordinary work the Starmer’s do. And it’s always inspiring to hear about the good works around the globe concerning these furry creatures. That’s what you call good karma.
